The Book of Mormon Musical, and the conversion that took place because of it.

On September 25th, 2011 I was lucky enough, to attend a performance of the Book of Mormon, on Broadway. Being a musical theater major, this was a very exciting opportunity for me.

I sat in the theater with my family, dancing and laughing in my seat. I thought it was simply an evening of entertainment that I would look back on and laugh about. Little did I realize, that night changed my entire life. Forever.

After seeing the musical, I was convinced that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (also known as the Mormon Church) was filled with psychotic people who knew nothing of what real life is.

I decided in my sassy and entitled mood, that I would go onto Mormon.org and see just how insane they were. I also discovered, once on the website, that there is a button that says "Chat with missionaries" I thought, this was my perfect time to destroy everything those missionaries were "told" to believe.

Upon signing on to the chat, I met a young man who went by the name of Elder Trevor Boardman. (<-- his blog). Although I originally wanted to make fun of him, we started to chat and  this young man was so informative and polite.  When we went to wrap up the chat, he asked me if I wanted to learn more (I thought to myself, HECK NO), but The Lord clearly had something else in mind. So I added him on facebook. He and his mission companion started to teach me about their beliefs. Elder Boardman even sent me a personal copy of the Book of Mormon.

He wrote a promise in the back of the book, telling me that if I were to read, pray and ponder in my heart to know if the Book of Mormon was true, that I would receive an answer. That night, I folded my arms and prayed before going to bed. I thought to myself "What have I got to lose in saying one prayer"

A few days had passed and one morning I was on a bicycle on my way to class. While I was riding up the street I rode under this beautiful tree. The sun was just starting to poke it's way through the branches and I was filled with this beautiful moment of peace. Although it was brief it was still one of the most amazing spiritual experiences I have ever felt.  I knew in that moment that it was coming from God.

Following this, I started to attend church and even met with missionaries in the Boston area. The more they taught me, the more I wanted to learn. Eventually, I had received enough answers and joy to know that I wanted to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. A baptismal date was set, and since December 31st 2011, I have been an active member of this beautiful church.

Last night, in Boston I attended the musical again. Although I have become more sensitive to certain scenes, I cannot deny the beauty that lies within the show. Heavenly Father knows me, and knows that as a theater major, I would come unto Him.

Because of this musical, a beautiful chapter in my life started and continues to grow. I am so grateful for my church, what a blessing it is in my life.

If this post, has sparked any interested, I'm glad, but know that I will never tell you what to believe. However, if you truly want to know, ask God. Pray to Him and I promise you, He will manifest the truth unto you. As the musical says I Believe, The Lord will reveal it, and you'll know it's all true you'll just feel it. Miracles happen. I know this is true, in the sacred name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

The musical that started it all.
